Curling Affects Minds of Followers of Game

I went into the Old National Bank the other day and asked Mr. Luther for a check book. "Oh, yes," he said, "they’re five dollars this year." I begged his pardon and walked out, and while I was trying to figure out why the five dollars for a checkbook, I met Ward Fallgatter. I said, "Good morning," and he looked sort o’ blank at me and said, "Will, I guess we’ll have to measure it." While I was trying to recover, Jardine came along. "Morning, John," says I. "Oh, my you’re way wide," says John.

I wondered if I was dreaming and as I walked along Jim Knutsen came across the street. When I started to pass the time of day with him he muttered something about it being ready by next Wednesday. Now I hadn’t had a drink since Thanksgiving that I could remember of, but I began to think I must have had some I didn’t remember for just then Pete Holst dropped in and when I said, "Hello, Pete," he threw up both hands and shouted, "Oh, doctor, doctor, you’re clear through the house" and then our old friend Sam Chandler yelled to Fred Fisher, who was coming down the street. "In Turn – Tee High," and it began to dawn on me that the curling season was at hand, but I sort o’ agree with what Doc Christofferson told the traveling man about those fellows out there with the brooms hailing from near Weyauwega.
