The Nozzle Got Loose.

Chief Fire Marshal Stout has solved the problem of turning three somersaults backward without breaking his neck. Others have tried this difficult act and are now reposing in peace six feet under ground. Mr. Stout performed the feat before a very select audience Tuesday morning, and was ably assisted by A.M. Hansen. It is however conceded that Frank Stout was the star performer. It was a well executed piece of tumbling and excited the admiration of those present who were not otherwise engaged in getting at a safe distance to witness the contortion acts.

Messrs. Stout and Hansen had not prepared themselves for their acrobatic exhibition. In fact it was a very impromptu affair. The intention was to exercise the engine team as it was out and see if everything was in shape.; It was found to be in excellent condition and went right to work exercising the chief fire marshal and chief engineer, who looked as if they had dropped into the Chicago river and been rescued. There is a question whether the hole in the ground was caused by the stream of water or where Frank Stout lit when he came down. The hole is there and the public may judge for itself.
