THE WAUPACA REPUBLICAN January 27, 1905 GRAND VIEW HOTEL. Stockholders Meet and Elect Directors - Last Year Unsuccessful – Directors Planning for Season of 1905. The stockholders of the Grand View Hotel Company, at their annual meeting, elected the following directors: Irving P. Lord and Wallace H. Lord of this city, and J. C. Lewis of Antigo. At a subsequent meeting of the directors the following officers were elected: Irving P. Lord, president; J. C. Lewis, vice-president; A. M. Penney, treasurer, and Wallace H. Lord, secretary. The business of the Grand View Hotel Company last season was unsuccessful from a financial standpoint. The World’s Fair at St. Louis, and the unusual cold summer, together with one or two other causes, succeeded in very largely reducing the expected receipts. The directors have under consideration a plan for operating the hotel this season, but whether they will succeed in carrying the same out it is hard to tell. It would be very unfortunate indeed for this city were the hotel to be closed, as it is the means of bringing a great many people here during the summer months and undoubtedly causing the expenditure of several thousands of dollars among our merchants and others. Waupaca people should do more towards assisting enterprises of this kind than they have done. There is too much “knocking” by some and it is strange to see just why any one is willing to bite off his nose to spite his face. |
