THE WAUPACA RECORD Thursday, June 16, 1904 GRAND VIEW HOTEL The regular visitors at the Grand View Hotel will be greatly surprised at the many improvements that have taken place at this famous resort since they were here last season. The hotel and cottages hardly recognize themselves since they have undergone the transformation. Every room in the house had been gone over. The chairs, furniture, tables, etc., have been varnished and rubbed down. Every carpet has been taken up and cleaned. Not a particle of dust or dirt is left to tell the tale. The hotel, cottages and grounds have been wired for incandescent lights. Nothing but electric light will be used anywhere about the buildings or ground. This feature alone places the Grand view far ahead of the average summer hotel. New side walks and paths have been built and every possible feature for comfort has been put in. A crew of men are at work painting and when they are thru the hotel will be as tidy as it is possible to make it. Manager Caughell has made the hotel very popular and its future is brighter by far than ever before. Ever since the hotel has been in the hands of Lord and Caughell it has been improved as fast as possible and now that it has been organized into a stock corporation the same men are virtually in control and the same policy exists. The present officers of the Grand View Hotel company are Irving P. Lord, president; John Lewis, vice president; W. H. Lord, secretary, and A. M. Penney, treasurer. That success may be by far greater than is expected is the earnest wish of the Record. The gentlemen should have the hearty support of everyone in this city. Other Notes Contractor and Builder Hans Knudsen is building a cottage for W. A. Sexton of Marshfield. It will be located in Point Comfort near P. M. Olfson’s and is of good size. The whistle of the steamer Glide may be heard at most any time on the lakes. Mr. Edmonds is always ready for duty. |
