Among Mead Documents At Clerk of Courts Office,
Waupaca County Court House Milwaukee Journal
June 16, 1929 WAUPACA MURDER
SOLVED AFTER 47 YEARS
Although it is nearly a half-century
since Waupaca’s first banker, H. C. Mead, was found slain, hardly a day passes
in the central Wisconsin city that the old mystery is not discussed. It is now revealed for the first time that
one of the slayers confessed 25 years after the murder and named six other
men. Of the seven implicated in the
crime by this confession six have died, but the seventh still walks about the
streets of Waupaca, unsuspected by his fellow men – except one or two who
know. The pictures show Banker Mead and
the small place he used as a bank. It
is now a plumbing shop. (Note: Photo of bank with inset of Banker Mead is
not included with this material). |
