RICHARD JOHNSON HAS MIRACULOUS ESCAPE IN COLLISION WITH AUTO

Wednesday evening Richard Johnson and Wilson Sanders were racing on bicycles going south on Division Street with evident intention of turning east on Lake street.  A hedge on the C.A. Spencer lawn hid from view an approaching Ford driven by Frank Seymour on the north side of Lake Street going west.  When Seymour saw the boys he shot across the road to avoid a collision.  The boys evidently changed their direction and shot out to pass to the front and around the auto but too late to accomplish this, Richard Johnson being caught by the Ford, the front wheel of his bicycle being smashed, throwing him to the pavement between the wheels of the Ford so the car passed over his body.  One of the wire spokes of the front wheel of the boy’s bicycle was driven into his thigh, making a wound that should result in nothing serious.  It was a most fortunate escape from what might have been a serious or fatal accident.  Mr. Johnson stated that he could not charge any blame to Mr. Seymour for his conduct and believed the driver did what he believed would be most likely to avoid the collision.
