Assemblyman E.H. Steiger of Fremont, so the Oshkosh Northwestern states, will be a leading factor in the National Grass Matting Company, which was recently incorporated for $500,000. Mr. Steiger was instrumental in getting the Wisconsin Grass Twine company organized and for several years furnished nearly all their supply of grass from the Fremont and Gill’s Landing marshes which he either owned or controlled.
The village of Fremont is experiencing a boom this spring. Seven new dwelling houses are being built there and George H. Dobbins store is being repaired.
March 14, 1901
Peter Damon’s residence at Gill’s Landing was destroyed by fire together with nineteen boats, oars and household goods which were stored therein. There was no insurance on the building or contents. Mr. Damon is spending the winter at his home in Ogdensburg. – Weyauwega Chronicle.
