Waupaca County Republican Convention
FREMONT, Oct. 20. – Dear Northwestern – The Republican convention to nominate county officers for Waupaca county, was held this afternoon at the Tarbell House, in the village of Weyauwega and we hasten to send you the result. The meeting was called to order by C.M. Fenelon, chairman county committee, and finally organized by the choice of Judge Osborne, of New London, as permanent chairman, and Dr. George H. Calkins, of Waupaca, as secretary. The towns in the county were generally well represented. The final vote for county officers resulted as follows:
For member of the assembly, S.A. Oakes, received 16 votes, George M. Pope, of Lind, 6, and George M. More, of Royalton, 35 votes. G.M. More was declared duly nominated.
For sheriff, A.J. Van Epps, of Weyauwega, received 14 votes, C.N. Mallory, 2, and R.N. Roberts, of Waupaca, 37 votes. R.N. Roberts was declared duly nominated.
For district attorney, O.E. Dreutzer, of Waupaca, received 16 votes, J.B. Strain, of Weyauwega, 2, and J. Wakefield, of Fremont, 38 votes. J. Wakefield was declared duly nominated.
A resolution was passed, offered by Evan Coolidge, of Waupaca, endorsing Mr. Sawyer.
We have lost the names of the candidates for county surveyor and coroner.
We have often spoken of the good entertainment we have received at that first class hotel, the Tarbell house. Our treatment today convinces us that we did right in praising it. J.W.
