WAUPACA REPUBLICAN POST August 8, 1912 CIRCUS DRAWS BIG CROWD. Waupaca Best Circus Town of Its Size in the Northwest. Trained Lions the Feature. Gollmar Brothers Circus again enjoyed an immense patronage in this city and put on a show which was most satisfactory to the two huge crowds in attendance. According to a statement by the management of the circus, the crowd here was the second largest which the show has had this season, which Gollmar Brothers say is the best in fifteen years. By them Waupaca is considered the best show town in the Northwest, and better than many cities much larger. The Stevens Point Journal tells the reason for the delay in reaching this city Saturday morning. Although all the paraphernalia of loaded on the company’s cars and ready for transportation over the Green Bay & Western tracks to Waupaca, at shortly after twelve o’clock this morning, the work of a vandal or vandals delayed the start for nearly two hours. As the train was about to be assembled it was discovered that the air hose on six cars had been cut, making it impossible to use the air brakes. New hose were put on and the train departed at about two o’clock. There is no strong clue as to who perpetrated the outrage. The feature of the show was easily the troupe of lions trained and exhibited by Miss Marguerite Dreisbock, daughter of the famous Herr Dreisbock. The control she had over the animals was marvelous and alone worthy of the large attendance. |
