REPUBLICAN February7, 1896 Waupaca has two large healthy Odd Fellow’s lodges and a Rebekah branch of the order in this city. In 1876 an encampment branch of the order called the Centennial Encampment was organized here. There being so many other fraternal and social orders in this city, and the membership of the encampment falling off the Grand Encampment of the State saw fit to change the camp (not “the only Odd Fellow lodge in Waupaca” as the Manawa correspondent of the Northwestern put it) to Manawa, which was done Monday evening. The following went over from here to assist in the work of initiating new members and installing officers: A.J. Van Epps, Geo. Howlett, Frank Stout, T. Pipe, M.F. Skinner, Ing. Ovrom, D. Koontz, Frank Whipple, A.J. Holly of this city and J.H. Woodnorth of Milwaukee. The following were elected officers of the camp: C.P., F.S. Woodnorth; S.W., Dr. M.E. Sanborn; J.W., A. Safford; H.P., C.D. Dick; Scribe, Geo. Lindsay; Treas., Mr. Jackson. After the installation a fine banquet was spread at Hotel Ceylon to which all present did ample justice. |
