CHARLES PARIS HAD NARROW ESCAPE IN HIS WHEEL CHAIR SUNDAY

While seated in his wheel chair in front of Laabs’ store Sunday, Charles Paris had an almost miraculous escape from serious injury if not death.

Eugene Nerone and Carl Cook came out of Haebig and Nerone’s tailor shop and stepped into the former’s Overland, Mr. Nerone taking the back seat and leaning forward directing Cook who knows a Ford better than he does an Overland, how to start and run the car.  The car started back with such speed that the new operator was unable to act quickly enough and the car followed around in a curve backing upon the sidewalk. The fender of the car caught the wheel chair and the runboard followed up the work of crushing the light material of the chair.  The occupant was thrown to the sidewalk and carried under the car and in the way of the front wheel.  The car struck the store building and was brought to a stop before the wheel passed over the prostrate man.

Paris was pulled from beneath the car, having sustained some bruises on the head and a general shaking up.  Mr. Cook offered to settle the damage which Mr. Paris claims will amount to about $100.
