AN HONEST INDIAN
Always Trusted Implicitly By His White Neighbors
John Shopodoc, the big Pottowottomie from the northern part of the country, said “how” to his Crandon friends Wednesday. John is breeding Indian ponies at his place near the Windsor dam on Pine river, and a few days ago a fellow wantonly shot one of the animals. Shopodoc comes of an ancient Indian family, of the royal blood of his tribe, and is a man deserving better treatment than having his stock injured wantonly. He and his relatives, who resided for forty years or more in Waupaca county were always trusted implicitly by their white neighbors, none of whom ever surpassed them in honest or manliness. - Crandon Republican.
This is the Indian who walked all the way to Nebraska to find proof for the conviction of the murderers of his brother, Kickapoo, whose trial was held in this city four years ago.
