THE WAUPACA REPUBLICAN April 13, 1906 NOON-DAY FIRE. About one o’clock Thursday an alarm of fire sounded for the Fourth Ward. The department promptly responded and it proved to be Gus. Bronson’s house on Lake Street. Mr. Bronson is away from home, Mrs. Bronson had been raking and burning the leaves and marsh grass back of the yard toward Mirror Lake during the forenoon. She said there was no fire in the house, and she went down town on an errand just before noon and came home in time to see the house on fire and all the excitement of busy people carrying furniture, and bric-a-brac across the street for safety. Chief Johnson and Mayor Lea were present to direct tings and the fire was soon under control with a damage loss of at least $200 which we learned is covered by insur-ance in I. P. Lord’s agency. It is lucky we have a good water supply and efficient fire department for had a fire got under headway with such a wind as was blowing Thursday it would probably not stopped until other buildings near by were scorched or burned.
