Somebody Careless in Leaving Dynamite on the Ground

That some person has evidently been pretty careless in leaving loose a part of a stick of dynamite was evident last Friday.  Mr. Cristy, the new merchant in the Spaulding block, lives over in the third ward, on Martin P. Peterson’s place.  In raking up the leaves and rubbish in the yard Mr. Cristy raked up a part of a stick of dynamite.  Friday about five o’clock Kenith, the eight year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Cristy, was making a bonfire of the pile of leaves, when all of a sudden there was a loud explosion that was heard all over the city.  Many thought it was a blast on the rocks, but later learned that it was dynamite which happened to be loose in the rubbish that was raked up at the M. P. Peterson place.  The little fellow happened to be walking away from the pile at the time of the explosion or he might have suffered more severely from the concussion or been killed outright.  As it was he was bruised some about the side of the head, as dirt and small stones were flying in the air.  A small pebble went through one ear lobe, dirt and stones penetrated through his clothing and under drawers quite badly bruising his limbs and hips.  It is learned that the boy is coming out all right.

The above is a reminder that sticks of dynamite are not very good kind of sticks for a bonfire.
