Capt. C. Merriam..

 

            After an illness of two years, of which the past six months he was confined to his home, Capt. C. Merriam died Thursday, July 22, at the age of sixty-eight years, one month and twelve days.

            Deceased was born at Bangor, Maine, June 10, 1847, and when a young man went west, living for a time in Minnesota from which place he came to the Waupaca Chain o’ Lakes seventeen years ago, where he came to be known to every camper and resorter as well as to all Waupaca people who made occasional trips to the Chain o’ Lakes on account of his genial good humor.  He leaves a widow and one daughter to mourn his death.  The funeral was held Saturday, conducted by Rev. E. B. Earl of Wisconsin Veterans Home with interment in Lakeside Cemetery in this city.

            Among those who came from away to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Raschke, Bear Creek; Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Jorgenson, Union; Mrs. Otto Lemke, Mrs. Ed Hendrich, New London, and Edward Nelson, Green Bay
