MRS. CAROLINE BRONSON MILLER

Another Waupaca Pioneer Passed Away Tuesday, May 30

Shortly after nine o’clock on Tuesday evening, May 30th, with a few days of her seventy seventh birthday and after a residence of nearly fifty years in the city of Waupaca, Mrs. Caroline Miller passed away at her residence on South Division Street. The end came very peacefully and quietly, following many weary months of weakness and suffering, borne with characteristic sweetness and fortitude.

In the person of Mrs. Miller the community has lost one of its strongest characters. Although confined to her home by growing infirmities for some years back, and laboring under the cross of almost entire deafness, it is not too much to say that the influence she exerted on the life and thought of all with which she came into contact might well be the envy of those of younger years and more robust constitution.  She will be sorely missed by a large circle of friends that includes those of all ages and every station.

Caroline Bronson was born on June 9, 1839, in Norway.  She came, while still but a young child, to this country, in company with her parents, who finally settled in Neenah, where on October 18, 1857, she was married to Mr. N. C. Miller.  In 1868 the couple came to Waupaca, where for some years Mr. Miller conducted a large and thriving mercantile business, and where he became known as one of the city’s most highly respected and progressive citizens. He died on July 28, 1879, since which time Mrs. Miller has made her house with her daughter, Mrs. Emma Woodward, and her granddaughter, Miss Ruth Woodward, by both of whom she is survived.  There also remain five brothers:  Messrs. Gus A. Bronson, Waupaca; Martin and Norman, both of Minneapolis; Ed C., Seattle; and Waldemar, Tacoma; also two sisters:  Mrs. Chas. Johnson, St. Paul, and Mrs. F. L. Burdick, of Sturgis, Mich.  Of these, Messrs. Gus A. and Martin Bronson and Mrs. Burdick are present in the city.

The funeral services will be held on Friday morning, June 2, at ten o’clock, at St. Mark’s Episcopal church.
