REPUBLICAN POST December 31, 1908 THE SOUTH MOUNTAIN COAL CO. P.
M. Olfson and Frank Black of this city and S. M. Myhre and G. A. Gullickson of
Iola have bought the South Mountain Coal Company in Petersburg, Ill., the sale
taking place last week. The
mine is located at Petersburg and contains a very fine grade of steam and
domestic coal. Owing to the location
being so near consumption, freight rates will have an advantage over the
Eastern markets. The mine has been in
operation since 1897 and consumers who have used this coal pronounce it a very
excellent quality. Their
main office will be in Waupaca in the P. M. Olfson building and the company
contemplates to make the output twice its present capacity. As the consumption of coal has more than
doubled in the past five years, it is looked forward to as a very good
investment and should be encouraged by local dealers in this vicinity. |
