Bridge Accident

Mr. W.B. Warren and wife who live on their farm in “Maple Grove,” Waupaca township, started from home on Wednesday forenoon, with horses and buggy, intending to come to town, but as they crossed the new bridge over the South Branch, near Mr. M.T. Frihart’s place one of the horses stepped on the end of a loose plank in the temporary approach that had been placed to the bride; the plank flew up, striking the other horse, and in an instant the buggy and occupants were dashed down the embankment into the ditch, the buggy was demolished and the horses didn’t stop until they got to A. Looker’s place, about a mile away.  Mr. and Mrs. Warren got out of the mud and water (thanks to it) apparently without any broken bones, but with some bruises.  Mrs. Warren went into Mr. Frihart’s near by and W.B. went for the team, finding them all right as above noted.  On his return a wagon was secured and they drove home.  After the excitement was over Mrs. Warren complained of a terrible lameness in her shoulder, and the family feeling alarmed sent for Dr. Woodward, who got there at eleven o’clock Wednesday night. When the Dr. came back yesterday morning she was better, but he found that she had a pretty bad shoulder. We have not seen the Dr. however, to get his statement of the injuries. The REPUBLICAN saw Mr. Warren yesterday afternoon.  He was all right, except his face looked as though he had been to a New York election.  He said his wife was resting easier but her shoulder was pretty sore and lame.

There is one thing sure, there will be some damages for the town or somebody to pay for having the approach left to this bridge in the way it was, which caused this accident.  It’s a miracle that it was no worse.
