P.O. Box Rent Raised.

Postmaster Penney received the following from the P.O. Department at Washington dated March 24:

You are hereby instructed to collect box rents at your post office at the following rates from and after April 1, 1898.

Call boxes 25 cents per quarter.

Lock boxes, small, 35 cents per quarter.

Lock boxes, medium, 50¢ per quarter.

Lock boxes, large, 60 cents per quarter.

To the patrons of the office this order may seem strange on account of a ten cent raise but the facts are the box rents have been lower at this office than at any other city of the same grade for years and the department is simply making the rates the same as at other offices of like character.
