A CLAM BAKE

During the fun making, nickel seeking and dish washing and air balancing on Monday afternoon it was whispered around that the potato roaster and beef broiler from Chicago was busy or going to be busy in the evening and try his hand at clam baking.

Speculation was rife as to what was done with the clams.  Some of the dish washers and the unsophisticated from “out of town” were heard discussing which of these two classes would have first claims on the clams.  The mystery was cleared at nine o’clock in the evening when the select of Waupaca’s four hundred were ushered or “rushered” into the Delevan dining hall for a banquet, clam bake or some fine, fitting, finish of the first potato bake.  After the finish every one was as  close as the proverbial clam and the only thing that has leaked out is that the potatoes were no better than those that fed the five thousand.
