THE WAUPACA REPUBLICAN-POST July 29, 1915 THE POTATO EXPERIMENT FIELD Two Acres on Farm of C.C.
Boyce Are Looking Fine
Through some arrangement of the federal Department
of Agriculture and the Wisconsin Experiment Station, a two-acre plat of ground
was rented from Mr. C.C. Boyce and a Mr. Robert D. Rands has had charge of
planting and making observations of the potatoes planted in this field. Every hill is marked and a detailed account of each hill
is kept for purposes of gathering information.
Similar seed was selected and planted on a similar tract in the potato
belt of Colorado. A federal inspector,
Dr. Edison, has been here the past week and he reported that the Wisconsin
patch is much more promising than the Colorado potato patch. While much may be said of the excellent prospect for a
fine crop of potatoes throughout this section, we should be mindful of the
danger of losing the entire crop by blight when the vines have an almost
perfect appearance. The rains of the
past week are considered by many to be very likely to produce conditions that
will result in potato blight of serious nature. |
