WAUPACA REPUBLICAN POST

May 2, 1912

REGENTS FAVOR WAUPACA

Potato Experiment Station Will be Located on A.M. Penney Farm

Near Chady’s Corners, Town of Farmington, One Mile From City.

The committee appointed by the Waupaca Business Men’s Association consisting of Senator Browne, C.M. Boyles and A.D. Barnes, have received assurance that the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin will approve of the location of a potato experiment field near Waupaca and designated tract No. 1, which is the portion of the A.M. Penney farm just north-west of Chady’s Corners and laying between the Sheridan-Waupaca road and the road to Badger.  This is certainly an ideal tract for such purpose and its accessibility by car from the city will be a point in its favor over other tracts inspected by Dean Russell, Prof. Millerd and Prof. Moore, some weeks ago.

The Waupaca high school has secured the acre tract across the road and lying just north of the school house near Chady’s Corners.  This will be used for experimental purposes by the pupils taking the course in agriculture, which will be conducted by a teacher especially fitted for this work in our local high school.

Both enterprises promise to be of great value to old and young and incidentally will be of value to this city as it will be evident that the people of this community are interested in agriculture, the fundamental industry of this section.
