THE WAUPACA REPUBLICAN

Busy at the Quarry

A visit to the granite quarry last week revealed the fact, as the REPUBLICAN predicted two years ago that the time would come when there would be lively times there, polishing works run by water power, etc.  All is true.  There are some sixty-five men busy as bees getting out stone and finishing them all ready for a large Chicago building.  A large Masonic monument for Oshkosh is nearly finished, and another one is ordered.  There were also some fine polished columns all completed, and some beautifully polished slabs of granite for mantel work.  Mr. Dayton feels pretty good over the outlook of things and is hopeful that a railroad will give them an outlet for their products soon.  Mr. David Annand the foreman of the works, says they have all that their present force can do for a long time, and the further increase of orders will mean more men and machinery in the works.  The soldier’s monuments for Gettysburg will be turned out and finished this winter.
