THE NEW DEPOT
The
carpenters and painters have finished the new Wisconsin Central Station and it
looks as bright as a newly blossomed daisy.
The roof is being laid with red tile, and when all completed, with
approaches and brick walks, it will be one of the finest stations on the
Central line. It is said, however, that
the company is duplicating this at
The building is of cream sandstone, and the outside wood trimmings is painted dark green; the interior woodwork is in polished oil finish. The ticket office and operators’ room is commodious and well lighted. There’s a large general waiting room with fire place, a private parlor and toilet rooms for ladies adjoining, and a smoking room for men. Each of the men’s and ladies’ private rooms have fireplaces. And besides these there’s a hot water furnace in the basement. The fireplaces furnish good ventilation. The baggage room is rather small, but handy to the general waiting room in the matter of checking and receiving suitcases, grips, etc.
It is expected to have the north side, near the porch, filled and widened so as to make a driveway for busses and baggage wagons.
The whole building is nicely wired for electric lighting. It may be several days yet before the station is opened to the public, probably not until the heating system is installed.
The Waupaca Business Men’s Advancement Association should hold a sort of a jubilee meeting in honor of this worthy improvement and invite the officials to the “blowout”.
Some seem to think they ought to have built it before, but, after all, perhaps if they had it would not have been as good as the present structure, therefore they are to be commended for giving such marked attention to this pretty little city.
