            TRAIL WORK LAST WEEK

Portion of South Waupaca-Weyauwega Road Surfaced With Sand and Gravel

The long stretch of poor sandy road between the Goldsmith farm to the east line of the town of Lind has been the object of very effective trail work last season and again this year.  Last summer shovelers from Waupaca aided the farmers of that neighborhood in surfacing that portion of the road between the Goldsmith farm and the Pirk bridge east of the old brick school house.

Last Thursday and Friday about thirty men from Waupaca joined the farmers of Lind and Waupaca to cover with gravel that portion of this road from the new culvert near the east line of Mike Jensen’s farm to the west end of the corduroy road in the town of Weyauwega.  Two days’ work of hauling clay from a high point in this road had already been done but it seemed patent to everyone interested that additional clay would make a better base for the gravel so it was arranged to divide the crew of shovelers and have the teams haul both ways and put a load of clay and a load of gravel to each wagon length in addition to what clay had already been hauled.  During the two days there were about five hundred eighty loads of road material hauled and carefully distributed on what was formerly one of the poorest sand roads in this vicinity.  It is understood that later in the season another day’s work will be proposed to the farmers of that neighborhood who did not turn in and help last week, as there is still a short strip that needs clay and gravel for surface.
