ON YELLOWSTONE TRAIL

Waupaca on Ocean to Ocean Route –

Will Meet Weyauwega and Amherst Half Way

Mr. O. C. Peterson was in the city Monday in the interest of the construction and the maintenance of a first class automobile road from the Atlantic to the Pacific via Chicago, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Fremont, Weyauwega, Waupaca, Amherst, Stevens Point, Marshfield, to Minneapolis, Minn., and on through Minnesota to Miles City and the Yellowstone Park through Seattle to Portland, Oregon.  It is the plan of the promoters of this project to arouse interest along the route to exert sufficient influence to secure suitable appropriations and donations to make a perfect highway from Ocean to Ocean.  Several Waupaca auto owners and others who are interested in the good roads movement signed a pledge to work for the project.  A half-way point between Amherst and Waupaca and between Weyauwega and Waupaca will be determined and the proper designation of a yellow band about telephone poles will designate the Yellowstone Trail.

It is proposed that a day be set aside when the men of the towns along the proposed route will close their stores and shops and join with the farmers along the route in the work of beautifying and improving the section of highway assigned each city and village.  In the western part of the country where the project has been at work the past season, not a little local pride and interest in this community effort is said to have been aroused so that liberal subscriptions are made by those who pride themselves on having their town make a favorable showing in this gigantic movement.

A meeting will be held at Marshfield next Tuesday at which time and place definite plans will be made for carrying on the Wisconsin portion of the undertaking.  Erle Whipple will represent Waupaca at this council.
