WAUPACA
RECORD LEADER June
15, 1916 TRAIL
IS NOW RECOGNIZED. YELLOWSTONE
TRAIL GETS A “RED LINE” ON THE OFFICIAL MAPS ERLE
WHIPPLE RESPONSIBLE Heretofore
the LaCrosse-Madison Route Only One Recognized by the Wisconsin Good Roads
Association As Crossing Wisconsin Route. - Local Work Organized. Erle Whipple, Wisconsin member of
the Yellowstone Trail Executive Committee, has been tireless in his efforts to
secure the cooperation of the various cities along the route in some concerted
action looking towards a wider advertising of the trail. He has written letters
to the representatives of Commercial Clubs and to leading garage men, to county
commissioners in the municipalities along the route. The result has been that various places such as Chippewa Falls,
Eau Claire, Oshkosh, Stevens Point, Marshfield and others are up and stirring
on the proposition of the Yellowstone Trail and good roads elsewhere within
their vicinities. The following letter to Mr. Whipple
from H.O. Cooley of Aberdeen, S.D., secretary of the Yellowstone Trail
Association, is in earnest of something specific which has been accomplished: “I wish you would mention in your
communication to Wisconsin, that through the prestige of the Yellowstone Trail,
the Oshkosh, Waupaca, Stevens Point, Marshfield, Eau Claire and St. Paul route
received the only red line of any touring route across Wisconsin. This ought to be pretty convincing evidence
as to what the Yellowstone Trail is doing. As heretofore, no Wisconsin route
has been recognized except the Madison-LaCrosse route.” Now that the subject is before us it
might be well to add that through the efforts of the various town officers and
the Roads Committee of the Commercial Club, an extended campaign is being
planned for work on the roads leading into this city. Probably some of it will be done at an early date. |
