TRAIL ASSOCIATION ORGANIZE AT MARSHFIELD

Waupaca Man Attends Meeting -

Trail Day is Set for June 7th -

Road Benefits City.

The state meeting of the Yellowstone Trail Association was held at Marshfield on Tuesday of this week.  Erle Whipple of this city, who has been appointed county representative, attended the meeting and reports a most encouraging outlook.  Mr. Hearst and Mr. Gillipsie, both of the state highway commission, were speakers and many interesting points on road construction were presented by these men.  As set forth in last week’s paper, the Yellowstone Trail is a road that is being constructed across the continent.  More than two thousand miles is already in use and more than seven million dollars has been spent to date.  The road is to pass through Waupaca and each community is asked to put all their efforts on this one road until it is in good condition.  This, as anyone will see, is far better than doing a little on a dozen different roads.  A trail day has been set on June 7th, at which time everyone along this road is asked to come out and work on the road.  The state will aid also in the cost, but it is up to the towns on the right of way to do their part.  Waupaca, as a town, is asked to paint the telephone poles along the trail, haft way to Weyauwega and half way to Amherst.  In addition to this we must pay our share on the road.  When completed the road will benefit the town by bringing a great many travelers this way, it will benefit the farmer, with a good road to drive to town, it will benefit the town people in general with a good road to travel on.  A relay over this road has also been planned for June 15th when letters will be carried from Chicago to Seattle on relays of 100 miles each.  This is done to get the best possible time over the road.

The officers elected at the meeting for the state are W.D. Conner of Marshfield, president; George Athearn of Oshkosh, vice president and E.S. Bailey of Marshfield, secretary and treasurer.

Mr. Connor, who is president of the W.D. Conner Lumber company, is one of the best known men in the state, and is just the man for the position.  The other men are also live wires and we may rest assured that the work will be carried on by them.

The representatives of the various counties follow:
