MEETING WELL ATTENDED GATHERING
OF ORIGINAL SIGNERS IS HELD AT DELAVAN - ASSOCIATION
FORMED. TELEPHONE
POLES ALONG TRAIL ARE MARKED. Trail
Day Will Not be Held Until Later Date - Everyone
is Invited to Join Association - Stevens
Point Holds Trail from Grand Rapids - Work
for Fine Roads. A meeting of the original signers
for the Yellowstone Trail was held at the Delavan Hotel on last Friday
evening. An association was formed to
carry on the work and prepare for a trail day.
The first steps taken was the marking of the poles along the trail with
a yellow band. These were painted the
latter part of the week, from this city half way to Weyauwega and half way to
Amherst. Work on the road has not been
started as yet but it is expected to be under way before very long. Every person in this vicinity interested in
good roads is invited to join this association. The membership fee will be one dollar, which puts it within the
reach of all. Another meeting will be
called within a short time to form further plans. Stevens
Point on Trail. A delegation from Stevens Point went
to Marshfield on last Tuesday to defeat the action of Grand Rapids of diverting
the trail from Stevens Point. The
people of Grand Rapids were very anxious to have the trail pass through that
town but the Stevens Point people were alive to the proposition and sent a
large number of their best men to hold it. Local associations are being formed
in every town and city on the trail and it is hoped that later these may be
united into one organization. The towns
of Fremont, Weyauwega and Waupaca will, it is hoped, form a county association
from the three local organizations now working. The date of the local trail day
will be announced at a later date. |
