REPUBLICAN November
30, 1894 Humane Agent Claussen during the fall received numerous complaints of the neglected children in Chas. Cartwright’s family, who lived in the town of Royalton. Mr. Claussen went there and told Cartwright he thought the best thing they could do was to allow him to take the children and put them in the State school at Sparta, where they would receive good care and schooling for a number of years and he wanted to take the children right away, their appearance showing that they sadly needed some respectable care. But Mr. Cartwright wanted to talk the matter over with his wife and he set the date for the doctor to come for them. When Dr. Claussen went over there the whole family had vanished, leaving not even a card designating their address. Dr. Claussen says all he cares for is that the children may be better clothed and treated in the future than they have in the past. |
