Much Sympathy is Expressed by Friends After a residence in this city for nearly half a century, Mrs. Mary Melissa Baldwin Holly, wife of A.J. Holly, died Saturday morning, aged 73, mourned by a great concourse of friends and relatives. Mrs. Holly was born in Chautauqua county, N.Y., Sept. 27, 1843, and came to Wisconsin with her parents in 1849, and settled in Plover. She was married to A.J. Holly at Waupaca, in 1867, and has lived here almost continuously since. Eight children were born to her, three passing away to the great beyond, and five surviving. She is survived by her husband, and five children, Anna, (Mrs. William Wakeman), William, Roy, Robert and Maude, (Mrs. O.R. Ziebell of Ripon.) She also leaves four brothers: W.A., Willis, Mertlo and Nathan, and twelve grandchildren. The funeral services were held at the home on South Main street, Monday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, the Rev. S.A. Sheard officiating and reading the service of the Methodist Episcopal church. Interment was in Lakeside cemetery. The stores of this city were closed during the funeral hour out of respect for the deceased and because she was the mother of the city’s mayor. She was greatly loved and will be much missed by her many friends. |
