REPUBLICAN POST February,
1910 OBITUARY. Ansel Jones, or better known as
“Cranberry” Jones passed away at the home of his son Eugene on Feb. 10th at the
ripe age of ninety-five years. He
passed away after a very brief illness and with little suffering. Ansel Jones was born in Cayauga
county, New York in 1815. In 1849 he came to Wisconsin with his newly wedded
wife, Helen Schell. He has been a

farming until the eighties. In an early
day he was engaged in lumbering for several winters. He has also dealt in cranberries quite extensively and from this
he derived the name of “Cranberry” Jones.
In business he valued his word from man to man higher than anything
else. Mr. Jones was of a roving
disposition. He traveled the Erie Canal
in his boyhood days. After coming to Wisconsin he made many trips west to Puget
Sound where he had considerable land claims.
He was a powerful man both physically and mentally. His last few years were an example to
humanity in faith and patience. The deceased was preceded to the
grave by his wife and two children, Josephine and Earnest. He leaves to mourn his loss, Clinton of
Portland, Ore., Neil of Tacoma, Wash., Herbert of Vermillion, British Columbia,
and Eugene and Mrs. W.A. Hartman of this place. The funeral services were held at the home of Eugene Jones
