MOTORCYCLIST BREAKS LEG

Bad Accident on Granite Street Saturday Night – Machine Collides With a Rig

Saturday evening Paul Jensen and William Schroeder were both riding the former’s big sixteen horse power motorcycle, coming from Wisconsin Veterans’ Home to this city. When they reached Granite street, near Mount Tom, they met a rig and turned out, and when turning back into the road another rig, a single horse and top buggy belonging to Andrew Anderson of Farmington, was discovered to be close ahead.  In turning out the motorcycle seemed to topple over on account of some loose crushed stone that had been spread on the street. The motorcycle in some way collided with the buggy, making quite a cut in the felly of both left wheels.  Several spokes were marked by the contact.

Both men were thrown and lay senseless till taken in two buggies and brought to the city.  When taken to the office of Dr. Mortensen it was found that besides many scratches and bruises and cuts on the faces and hands of both men, Jensen had sustained a fracture of the left leg above the ankle and the larger finger of the left hand was nearly severed and hung by some mangled flesh.  After dressing their wounds, Dr. Mortensen, accompanied by Chief Friesleben, took the two men to their homes west of this city.  Both are rapidly recovering from what might have been a fatal accident.  Fast riding is given as the cause of the accident.  The rig was not damaged by the collision.
