THE WAUPACA POST

March 4, 1886

Hans Olfson, of Sheridan, shipped a car of potatoes to Milwaukee last week and sent a man along to take charge of it and keep the potatoes from freezing.  The car went as far as Oshkosh, and owing to the damage to the R.R. bridge, it was detained and the man in charge thought he would have a good time, took in the town, got drunk and was locked up in the calaboose, and in order to pay the fine sold a part of Hans’ potatoes.  Hans was in Milwaukee, and his potatoes not arriving took the train for Oshkosh and found his man still in the potato trade, selling them for 45 cents a sack, each sack containing a bushel and a half, the potatoes costing at Sheridan 45 cents per bushel.  It is said Hans was mad.
