DEATH OF M.V. RICE

 

            Martin Van Buren Rice was born August 4, 1840, in the town of Russell, St. Lawrence county, New York;  in the year of 1855 he came with his parents to the town of St. Lawrence, Waupaca county, Wis.  About 1861 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Scott and to this union were born two daughters, Carrie and Mabel, the latter dying at the age of ten years.  Soon after his marriage he enlisted in Co. A, 8th Wis. Vol. Inf., and served his country until discharged on account of sickness. After returning from the war he lived in the town of Little Wolf until about thirty-five years ago when he went to Nebraska where he lived on a farm for two years, then sold his farm and moved into the city of Neligh, where he lived a retired life, having never recovered his health since returning from the war.  His wife who had been an invalid for many years, died about seven years ago, and two years later he was married to Mrs. Mary Sheldon of Royalton.  Deceased departed this life May 28, 1916, and leaves to mourn his loss a wife and one daughter, Mrs. Carrie Lytle of Neligh, Neb.; two grandchildren, three brothers, Hiram and Henry of Plainfield, and Miner, of Waupaca.  Deceased also (remainder of sentence was not given in newspaper).
