WAUPACA
POST February
7, 1895 CARE
OF SEED POTATOES Toward spring, when the weather gets
warm, the potatoes will begin to throw out sprouts. We should try to prevent this.
We can do so if we have plenty of room in the cellar, and this we shall
in all probability have at that season, as much of the crop will likely have
been disposed of. The boxes should then
be placed one tier deep on the cellar floor. The light should then be let in,
and the contents of each box turned into the other about once every week at
first, and oftener when the weather gets still warmer. The potatoes thus handled will shrivel and
discolor, but the sprouts will not become long, and when the seed is planted
growth will be immediate where the weather and soil are suitable. |
