REPUBLICAN January
23,1903 ROASTED
POTATOES Mr.
Fagerholt’s Warehouse Nearly Consumed by Fire On Monday evening about half past
eight o’clock the fire alarm sounded and a telephone message from the Third
Ward stated that the Fagerholt warehouse was burning. The department responded
quickly as possible but the indications were that the fire which had caught in
the partitions and ceiling from a stove used to warm the basement, had been
burning for some time for when it broke out in the roof, the building was soon
doomed to destruction. Part of it was saved, however. The Leigh Fruit and Storage Co. of
Kentucky, managed by Chris Christensen of this city, had from 1,500 to 2,000
bushels of potatoes stored in the building which were insured by a policy of
$1,500 in Olson and Johnson’s agency. There may be a savage on them when
sorted. Winfield Scott & Son’s agency
carried $1,000 on the building. The building cost $1,500 or $2,000. Mr. Christensen continued business
as usual the next morning having rented the Bailey warehouse. |
