001.  The Town of Waupaca comprises Township 22 north, Range 12 east.

002.  Waupaca is bounded by St. Lawrence, Royalton, Lind and Farmington.

003.  The Vermonters first arrived at what is now Waupaca, on June 9, 1849.

031.  J.H. Woodnorth established the first drug house (pharmacy) in Waupaca in 1875.

032.  On April 15, 1853 the county seat was moved from Mukwa to Waupaca.

033.  Mukwa challenged Waupaca’s claim to the county seat in 1855.

034.  The first railway locomotive entered Waupaca on the Wisconsin Central Road on Sept. 28, 1872

035.  The first member of the state legislature from Waupaca was David Scott in 1854.

036.  The first state senator from Waupaca, or the county, was EL Browne in 1860

039.  The first wagon was built in Waupaca by P.A. House in 1855.

040.  The Waupaca Electric Light Association furnished the first light on July 4, 1886.

041.  On April 5, 1887 high water accompanied by the breaking up of ice partially destroyed the dam.

042.  The Waupaca Curling Club was organized in 1879 through the efforts of HW Williams.

043.  The Waupaca Opera House was incorporated in June, 1888 to provide summer entertainment

            and a curling and ice skating rink in winter.

044.  Shadow Lake was previously called Big Lake.

045.  Mirror Lake was previously called Judson Lake and Johnson Lake

046. Browne Street was first named Judson Street.

047.  There are no houses facing Judson Street.

048.  The Crystal River was once called the Pearl River.

049.  May 16, 1872 fire destroyed almost every building on the block immediately south

            of the public square in downtown Waupaca.

050.  The fire on Main Street January 19, 1878 caused the block from Union to Fulton to become

            the first uninterrupted row of brick fronts in the city.
