Y.M.C.A WELL ATTENDED

New Officers Elected and Standing Committee Appointed.

The first afternoon service held by the Y.M.C.A., in their rooms last Sunday was well attended, about one hundred being present.  The services were opened by a song service in which all took part, followed by a prayer by Rev. F. Arthur Hayward.  The Gondolier Mandolin Club then rendered a very pleasing selection.

The appearance in the city of Rt. Rev. R.H. Weller caused a change in the announced program, Bishop Weller occupy the time originally designed for H.A. Larsen and Farther Hirst.  Bishop Weller’s talk was one of the best ever heard in the city.  For half an hour he held his audience spell-bound, and his talk bristled with good things.  It was a very auspicious start for the series of meetings which will be held every Sunday afternoon during the spring.

A pleasant feature of the service was the signing of familiar hymns, with L.F. Shoemaker at the piano.

At the business meeting of the association, held on Monday evening, it was decided, inasmuch as there had been some comment upon the method of electing officers at the meeting on Feb. 20, that it would be well for all officers who were elected at that time, to tender their resignations, which was done.  Officers and directors were then elected by ballot, in some cases two ballots being required.  The following were chosen:

            L.F. Shoemaker, president

            Edward E. Browne, vice president

            Roy Holly, secretary

            Dr. J.T. Bristow, treasurer

Directors:  For term expiring May, 1905 – Roy Holly, R.L. Cochrane, W.J. Hocking, Matt Ovrom.

For term expiring May, 1906 – Ing. Ovrom, J.T. Bristow, C.M. Paris, G.O. Banting.

For term expiring May, 1907 – J.E. Cristy, E.E. Browne, L.F. Shoemaker, Peter Holst.

It will be noticed that the board of directors was increased from nine to twelve.

There are about seventy-five members of the association on the rolls, and the outlook for a successful organization is most, excellent.
