AUTOMOBILE BACKED INTO RAILING SOUTH OF CITY HALL SUNDAY

A Buck car carrying license number 247,268 and supposed to belong to Alfred Peterson of Stevens Point and driven by one of the women in the party, was accidentally backed across North Main street and upon the cement sidewalk south of city hall. The car continued to back along the sidewalk and the rear bumper tore off the iron railing and both the right front and right rear wheels went over the edge of the walk at a point where the sidewalk is twelve feet above the ground below.

The axles of the car rested on the edge of the cement walk and the wheels caught on the edge of the retaining wall where it projected a few inches beyond the sidewalk. This was another of the hair breadth escapes we see or read about and wonder how death will flirt with some and be so exacting in other cases.
