BUSINESSMEN RESUME MEETINGS

Meeting Held at City Hall on Monday Evening

Prof. Boyles Delivered An Address

 

            The Waupaca Business Men’s Advancement Association held one of their regular meetings at the city hall last Monday evening.  The attendance was somewhat smaller than usual but much was done to make it of interest to every citizen of the city.

            The meeting was called to order by Pres. Ghoca about 8:00 o’clock.  Reports were heard from the advertising, convention and transportation committees.  Mayor Alfred Johnson, who has just returned from Europe addressed the meeting and told of the industries of Denmark compared with those of America as he saw them.

            A motion was made that the association invite the State Grocer’s convention to hold their next meeting in this city and will send Peter Holst as a delegate to Appleton to use his best endeavors to secure this convention.

                                                            Waupaca City Park

            From the improved appearance of the city’s lot at their pumping station and as a result of the E.F.U. picnic the association has become aroused to the necessity of having a city park.  The lot is now held by the city, although small, could be turned with very little expenditure into a very pretty park.  There is a good front on the Mirror Lake, and the channel between the two lakes could be dredged; band stand built, a few walks laid, fountain erected, etc., till everyone would be proud of this spot.  A committee consisting of Carl W. Nelson, John Evans and Geo. H. James were appointed to look into the matter further.

                                                            Another Banquet.

            A committee consisting of Geo. W. Ghoca, Peter Holst and M.F. Skinner was appointed to arrange for another Business Men’s Banquet for their next meeting.

                                                            Prof. Boyles Address

            Prof. Boyles of the Waupaca Business College and Academy gave an address on the work already done by his college, the prospects and the great advantages derived there from.  Twelve students enrolled the opening day and thirty-two have signified their intention before snow flies to enter the school.  The institution has exceedingly bright prospects ahead of them and everyone in the city should give the college a helping hand.

            The meeting then adjourned.
