Question Taken Up At Meeting Civic and Commerce Association Held Last Thursday Evening
Sixty-five Were Present – Banquet Enjoyed
The regular monthly meeting and banquet of the Waupaca Civic and Commerce Association was held at the Palace Parlors on Thursday evening of last week, and was attended by about sixty-five members. Following the banquet, which was served at 6:30 o’clock, the business session followed, and it was one of the most interesting held by the association thus far.
Practically the entire evening was taken up with the camp site question. E.G. Lange, chairman of the special camp site committee, gave a report on the findings of the committee. He was followed by supplementary reports, given by Fred Fisher and Judge Wm. N. Martin, other members of the special committee. C.W. Nelson, city engineer, submitted plans for the improvement of the camp site.
Almost every member present took part in the discussion, and the general feeling seemed to be when the session was over that Waupaca should have a paid camp site, and that the city council be requested to proceed with the work of making the present camp site more sanitary by installing sanitary toilets and cleaning up the grounds. There being some discussion as to how the improvements would be financed the following resolution was adopted:
"Resolved by the Common Council of the city of Waupaca that the sum of $1000 be and the same hereby is appropriated out of the general funds of the city of Waupaca to be immediately available for the improvement of the camp site owned by the city of Waupaca on the lands lying adjacent to and south of the original South Park where the present camp site is now located, and that same be submitted to the voters at the coming election in April."
Petitions asking that this matter be put up to the voters at the coming election have been circulated this week and the required number of signatures secured.
