WAUPACA CIVIC AND COMMERCE ASSOCIATION

DIRECTORS URGE PROMPT ACTION TO SECURE A LIVE STOCK SALES PAVILION

FOR CITY

At the meeting of the board of directors of the Civic and Commerce association last Friday evening the question of the live stock sales pavilion was given precedence of all matters considered. In the responses to the questionnaire sent out by the president as to what line of activity each member preferred to work, four members gave for first choice the committee on agriculture.

Mr. Holly withdrew soon after the opening of the meeting to accompany Co. Agent Dance to an Agricultural meeting at Maple Lane school that evening.

Word was received from the Durrant Motors Inc. that Flint, Michigan, had been selected for the location of that company. Waupaca’s invitation was one among hundreds received by the company inviting investigation as to the merits of the different cities for the location of such manufacturing concern.

President Cristy announced the following committee for work in the city, on Stock Pavilion, Roy Holly, Chr. J. Miller, E.A. Hannon and Wm. N. Martin.

He also announced the following appointments as heads of the various departments of the Association:

Organization – Wm. N. Martin

Industries – Roy Holly

Agriculture – Chr. J. Miller

Civic – J.F. Jardine

Mercantile Bureau – E.A. Hannon

Chain o’ Lakes – Wm. Dressen

Traffic – R.F. Whale

Publicty and Conventions – S.W. Johnson

The salary of the secretary was fixed at $100 per month and $50 per month for office and stenographer.

A motion was carried as follows:

"That the Directors of the Civic and Commerce Association petition the Common Council to start condemnation proceedings to acquire the Browne tract of land for park purposes."

Judge Martin was excused from voting on the measure.
