REPUBLICAN February 28, 1890 On Monday Royal Green raised his gin-pole in front of the old engine house and proceeded to remove the bell tower. The tower was loosened and about twenty men were pulling on the tackle rope. It bound against the pole and parted letting the tower down on the outside a la “McGinty.” Mr. Green proceeded to tear it apart. There being some of the timbers and material decayed in the old tower, Mr. Green says it was well that it was not raised over the new building. He is making a new one using only such portions of the old tower as worthy. |
