Spring Politics

            City caucus Saturday evening, 7:30.

It is learned that Andrew G. Nelson is a candidate for mayor.  J.H. Woodnorth’s name was mentioned among others, last week.  Both gentlemen will probably “try titles” in the caucus.

Among the candidates that have been mentioned for ward officers:  In the First ward, for alderman, the REPUBLICAN has heard the names of A.L. Bailey, and C.L. Scoville.  Geo. Allen is in the field for nomination to the office of supervisor.  C.S. DeVoin says he came so near getting the nomination last spring, that he has consented to try it again. A.M. Hansen says he is a candidate for re-nomination.

In the 2nd ward for alderman, the names of Ole O. Hole, Frank Stout, Caleb Shearer and Royal Green have been suggested, but it is learned that none of them care for the office.  For supervisor J.W. Evans for re-nomination has been proposed.

The REPUBLICAN asked a 3rd warder this morning, who are candidates.  “Why,” said he, “there’s M.R. Baldwin, C. Johnson, Alex Hanson, Hans Yorkson, T. Rich – lots of good timber for aldermen in the old third and H.H. Suhs is a candidate for re-nomination to the office of supervisor.”

In the 4th ward, for aldermen, the names of Frank Whipple, Ed. Bailey, J.M. Hatch and Jacob Nelson have been mentioned, but it is said that nobody is aspiring for aldermanic honors in the 4th  ward.  The names of Geo. M. Chamberlain, Frank Whipple and David Parish have also been mentioned in connection with the office of supervisor.  But it is not learned that any of them are aspiring for the position.
