INCREASE IN POPULATION. – We herewith subjoin a statement showing the rapid increase of population of the 5th Congressional District of this State, as designated under the late apportionment bill in which District the County of Brown is situated. The accompanying table shows that in 1850 the population of the District was then 30,486, while according to the census taken last year it was 127,081, or more than four times as many. Brown County then contained a population of 6,215; it has since been subdivided into six counties, which contain an aggregate population of 34,341, besides one township of the best land in the County, which contrary to the wishes of the inhabitants has been detached and annexed to the County of Manitowoc. And this in spite of the many drawbacks occasioned by the want of ready means of access, which is an earnest of what we may anticipate when the railroad shall be completed to this place, and thus open up a ready means of communication with every part of the district.
